Baltimorean Beans and Rice
No Meat Athlete (NMA) is a site with lots of features that help you with a plant-based diet, including such articles and resources as: “Rice and Beans 5 Ways”; “10 Ways to Eat Kale”; “The Plant-Based Diet: A Step-by-Step Guide to Making It Last”; ”How to Go Plant-Based”; ”7 Foods to Eat Every Single Day”; a Vegan Meal Plan; tips for athletes; and a blog and podcast.
The NMA team includes Matt Frazier and Robert Cheeke, authors of The Plant-Based Athlete.
NMA recommends a plant-based diet to athletes because it is likely to result in:
Weight loss, which often leads to increased speed
Easier digestion and faster recovery after workouts
Improved energy levels to help with not just athletic performance but your day-to-day life
Reduced impact on the planet
NMA says that the site is about “giving you tools, not preaching. We’re all about training tips, recipes, advice on how to transition, and the occasional dose of inspiration.”
The site does contain commercial elements, and promotes some things that may not be necessary like supplements. Many recipes on NMA are not written by the team but are pulled from other sites which are not completely vegan and may be quite commercial. Just keep in mind those provisos when you navigate the site.
We hope you enjoy the featured recipe for Baltimorean Beans and Rice, with some bonus side recipes!
