Cincinnati Spaghetti

Here’s another great dish from Isa Chandra Moskowitz.

This recipe is a little like a recipe I saw fly past my screen the other day: Chiletti. A little like Chili Mac also, which often has (plant-based) cheese, as in, Chili Mac ’n Cheese. This recipe gets its richness from the avocado, however (optional for those avoiding high-fat plant foods—don’t use if you are following a Jumpstart diet).

What does chili spaghetti have to do with Cincinnati? There is a whole Wikipedia entry on “Cincinnati Chili” which means chili, usually meat-based, being served as a topping for either spaghetti or hot dogs (aargh! but if they are vegan hot dogs, maybe it’s okay!) “Cincinnati Chili” is starting to sound suspiciously like the meaty sauce used on the “garbage plate” Rochester is famous for (vegan version: compost plate). I suspect many cities have their traditions of meaty taste and texture just waiting to be adapted, but Cincinnati gets the nod here.

And as far as I am concerned, serving anything with spaghetti can’t be a bad idea.
