Dark Horse Lentil Soup

Hunting down this soup has been a historical as well as a culinary adventure. For those who remember the 70s, the names associated with the recipe will be richly evocative and nostalgic.

I first became familiar with this recipe from vegetarian column by Corydon Ireland, “Vegetarian View,” which ran in the Rochester newspaper back in the 1990s. An internet search reveals that, just as there is more than one Mary Frampton (see the recipe), there is more than one Corydon Ireland; and the vegetarian advocate appears to be now living in the Pacific Northwest and working as a writer associated with a scientific lab. The vegetarian community expands and extends its reach!
